Overview
At Cascade Massage Therapy in South Granville, every treatment opens with an assessment. From there, your Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) picks the techniques that fit what's actually going on — deep tissue, Swedish, trigger point, and others, depending on what the assessment turns up. Because all of our therapists are registered with the CCHPBC, your visit counts as clinical care under most extended health plans, and we bill most of them directly.
Why we assess before we treat
Massage therapy helps with a long list of complaints: headaches and migraines, back and neck pain, stress, sports injuries, stiff joints, and scar tissue after surgery. Our conditions overview walks through what we treat, one condition at a time. The reason for your visit shapes the work. Chronic pain gets handled differently than pregnancy aches, which get handled differently again than the knot you've earned from eight hours at a desk — and your therapist chooses among deep tissue, Swedish, trigger point and other techniques on that basis.
Every body is its own case. The session starts with an intake: what's been bothering you, how it behaves, how you move through a normal day. Your therapist works firmer where you're holding tension and eases off where you need to settle. The point is relief that holds and movement that comes back, not a pleasant hour that's worn off by morning.
What to expect in your RMT appointment
A registered massage therapy treatment includes the following steps:
- Discussion about the area of concern or condition
- Assessment of the area or condition
- Hands-on treatment
- Re-assessment
- Home-care guidance — including exercises, stretches and hydrotherapy recommendations
You stay covered by a sheet the whole time, and only the area being worked on is ever uncovered. We email your intake form ahead of the appointment. Filling it out before you arrive gives your therapist a few minutes to read it and plan, which matters most on a first visit.
First time seeing an RMT?
Never seen an RMT before? Nothing about it is complicated. Your therapist takes a brief health history, asks why you've come in, then talks through what they're going to do and keeps checking in as they work. You only undress to your comfort level. Some treatments — benchwork and active stretching, for instance — happen fully clothed in athletic wear.
How long should you book? We recommend 60 minutes for a first visit. That's enough time to take a proper history, assess the area, and put together a treatment plan that's safe to follow. Once you're a return client working on a single area, 30- or 45-minute sessions usually do the job.
What our clients say
“Suzanne is body intuitive. I’ve been to so many massage therapists and Suzanne stands out. She has knowledge of other body practices which I feel lend to her being a more rounded practitioner. I feel rejuvenated and relaxed every time I leave my appointments.”

Our approach — frequently asked questions
A treatment includes a discussion about the area of concern or condition, an assessment of that area, hands-on treatment, a re-assessment, and home-care guidance such as exercises, stretches and hydrotherapy recommendations. You stay covered by a sheet throughout, and only the area being worked on is uncovered at any time.
Your therapist will take a brief health history and ask about your reason for visiting, then explain what they plan to do and check in with you throughout. There is no pressure to undress beyond your comfort level — some treatments, such as benchwork and active stretching, are done fully clothed in athletic wear. We send your intake form ahead of time so you can complete it before you arrive.
We treat each body as its own case. A session starts with an intake about what has been bothering you and how you move through your day, then your therapist adjusts the pressure and technique accordingly — firmer where you are holding tension, lighter where you need to settle. They draw on techniques such as deep tissue, Swedish and trigger point therapy to tailor each session to your needs.
For a first visit, a 60-minute session is recommended — it allows time for a thorough assessment and medical history review so your therapist can build a safe and effective treatment plan. 30- and 45-minute sessions work well for return visits focused on a single area.
